About Norma

Norma is a writer from Austin, Texas and has enjoyed being a singer, songwriter, poet, and more since her youth. She began writing poetry when she was in grade school, and become an editor of the LRY (Liberal Religious Youth) newsletter when she was in high school.

By college age, she had become a prolific writer, poet, and songwriter, and performed on KUT for International Women’s Day, had been published in the Austin Women’s Songwriters’ magazine, along with those still famous today, such as Lucinda Williams, Ruth Huber, and others. She performed for benefits for the Common Women’s Bookstore, Women’s Space, and at the Austin Women’s Music Festival, as well as opening for Izquierda, and Meg Christian.

As a member of Word of Mouth Women’s Theater, she both acted and wrote songs for productions. Later as a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, she became editor of the newsletter for that magazine., as well as one of the only performing female magicians in Austin, eventually performing at the All Texas Magicians Christmas Show under the show name of Pandora, Mistress of Magic.

Norma wrote many articles in the District Newsletter connected with her career in teaching, and published regularly in a variety of other newsletters as part of jobs in education and as the Director of Children’s Ministry. She has performed at open mics in Austin at the Chicago House, the Saxon Pub, the Cactus Loung. Norma also performed at open mics for poets hosted by Thom Woodruff, an incredibly talented and warm hearted International poet. She eventually published a CD of her original songs, after much urging from friends familiar with her work.

Norma is just as comfortable singing around a campfire as on stage, as it is the music and the listeners that are the most important. Norma journals regularly, continues to write in various capacities. She writes articles to support many who are underserved individuals of various cultures, and continues to participate in writer’s workshops, informal gatherings of shared writings, open mics.

She has a Facebook following, mostly due to her descriptive episodes of journeys around the United States on her Harley Davidson motorcycle, accompanied by her husband Blind Dave . Her writings are spiritual but not religious, and are genuine and heartfelt accounts of the inner journey of her life.
