Waiting….

Do you know what’s it’s like to be waiting?

How many times have I been in the spiritual hallway?wondering if a door is going to open, will things go my way, or will I always wonder what it would be like

if only.

When we’re young, it’s waiting til you’re old enough to drive a car, waiting til you can have your own apartment, then graduate past material things into the emotional realm: waiting for that perfect man, or woman to magically appear and bring a happy ever after experience into a less than perfect life.

Time marches  on, then we wait  some more, for something to change, to get better, to be different, and that’s really-only human to do so. The problem with hoping that  the grass will be greener,  though, is that it sometimes affects the enjoyment of today.

Perhaps  sometimes it may be I’m not accepting today. Sometimes it turns into the resentment of not getting that vacation you wanted , the raise you thought you deserved ,the guy or gal who married someone else. Grumbling about what I don’t have or didn’t get, always being a member of the “if only” club, frequently distracts me from being happy with what I do have. It means I’m forgetting that I can trust God with all my tomorrows and be at peace with the present. Fear that I will not get what I want, or even lose something I have, will push me to edge of bitterness and depression.

Can I find acceptance instead, and trust God’s timing?

Can I practice acceptance with joy? If so, my gratitude list will always be longer than my list of fears, and I can face the future with hope.

Surrender today, believe, and reshape your tomorrows!
